Wordless Wednesday

Some of you already know that I was born and raised in Chicago, not a suburb, but Chicago. In 2005, I remarried, a year after the death of my first husband, a man from West Tennessee and moved there. While my current husband does electronic repair, due to off shoring he can no longer get the parts he needs to repair certain items, so the Lord lead him to be a trucker. He called me one morning from New Orleans, and said listen, I can breath. While he could breath better in other states Louisiana would become our new home as of 2010.

While I grew up in the city, I have become a country girl. However, there are some things about Chicago that I miss.

The libraries, this is the one I used walk to while growing up.

There are so many libraries in Chicago just stacked with books, it looks small, but carries a lot.

There also just as many parks, snow, I miss snow. My children played here.
Learned to swim there, go off the diving board, and my daughter was on the swim team and played water polo.

The Field museum, one of many great museums in Chicago.
This five day event features samplings of food from a large selection of Chicago's restaurants.

If you go in the morning it is not as crowded, you can see it is a big event. It is where I had my first fried cheese stick.

So, those are the things I miss most about Chicago, I think it is easy to see why. Well, time to go need to finish up my homemade apple sauce, for the banana bread I will be making. Oh and there are the bathrooms and laundry which need to be tended to, then exercise and off to Bible study.

Did you move from where you grew up? What do you miss the most?

This Friday May 11, 2012 I will be featuring both a guest blogger and a giveaway. After finding out about Gold Label Coconut Oil on her blog I knew I had to try some. While there was a giveaway going on, I went ahead and ordered mine anyway.

I have one, one quart jar of coconut oil to giveaway compliments of Tropical Traditions.

Included is Hybrid Rasta Mama's ebook full of recipes using the coconut oil.
Stayed tuned for my review on the recipe ebook tomorrow. Meanwhile you can take a look at the Tropical Traditions web site to learn more about coconut oil, and browse the food recipes.

Wordless Wednesday

In the small town we live in every year there is a three day event called The Strawberry Festival. This town is serious about their strawberries, here are some signs from the festival.

I had to get a picture of this, really strawberry moonshine??

I make it for a lot less then this.

Daiquiris are all over this town, not all contain alcohol.

I really wanted to get some, but settled for fried pickles instead.

A flag displayed on a house which was further adorned with strawberry decor.

The cup contains the most delicious strawberry sweet tea.

Wordless Wednesday

I made some homemade strawberry bread today. Strawberries are in abundance here right now, but due to a mild winter are over ripe. For this reason they need to be used right away. I searched yesterday for a recipe that was healthy and found one at CD Kitchen. I love that it uses no oil, egg whites and contains only 151 calories and 0 grams of fat.

I did use wheat flour instead of white which does have 5 grams of fat per 1/4 cup, but wheat breaks down in your body slower feeding your body energy. While white flour breaks down faster in your system leaving you hungry sooner, and not as energetic.

It got the approval of the entire household including two boys, 13 & 15.

I posted the recipe, but also included the link.
