Are You Sabotaging Your Weight Loss?

Yes, sometimes we are our own worst enemy, and can, and do in many ways sabotage our weight loss goals. Here are just a few ways you may be sabotaging your self.

Exercising and than treating your self to some sweet snacks.

Keeping food in your home you shouldn't eat.

Shopping when you are hungry.

Eating at night.

Eating out.

Buying new clothes because the ones you own are too tight.

Exercising can, and will cause you to be hungry, depending on what time of day we exercise should depend on our caloric intake. We should not reward our selves for getting fit and healthy, the way we will look and feel once we meet our goal is our reward.

If we do not eat a particular food, do not buy it, our whole family should be getting healthy with us. Do the grandchildren like to have a snack when come by? Have mom or dad bring it with, if we want to do something special for them, do a small amount. There is no need for us to have a whole package of cookies sitting in our cupboards waiting for a child's visit.

Shopping when we are hungry is one of the worst things we can do, we always end up buying stuff we know does not need to go into our bodies.

We have no need to eat at night, food is energy which is we do not need at night when we are doing nothing.

Buying clothes because the ones we have are too tight is not the solution, it only allows us to be more comfortable. By wearing those uncomfortable clothes we should be motivated to strive harder to do what we need to do to make them fit, I know it does me.

These are things I have done or do, and realize that all I am doing is sabotaging my self. I can not achieve the health and fitness I want to if I do these things, thought I would share.

Are you sabotaging your self?

Failure

Currently I am studying for the test to become a certified personal fitness trainer. Every day I see successful people in the fitness industry and think to my self, I want to be like them. I want to help make a difference in some one's life.

I was never really good in school, by man's standards I have only a eighth grade education. During my late teens I decided I wanted to go to college, for business, and studied for my GED. I never told anyone what I was doing because I was afraid if I failed everyone would be disappointed in me. Every day for months I would get up at five in the morning, exercise for two hours, get a shower, and head off to work for eight hours. When I got home I would sit with the GED book working on math problems, I was never good in math so I thought this was a good strategy. All of my hard work had paid off I took the test and passed.

Now I sit reading this manual to do what I have wanted to do for years and I am once again afraid of failure. I never liked science, always failed science, now here is all this scientific jargon right in front of my face. I will have two hours to take the test which consists of 140 questions and the cost is $260.00, only because I am a member of Snap Fitness. I can take the test again, and I think about those in other fields who have to take exams and fail, not just once, but more than once. If I fail, I will work harder to achieve what I want.

I look at it like this I have only truly failed if I fall down and never get back up. After all it is my life. and It's Your Life, Live to the fullest, and don't give up.

Beat Wrinkles

While God created this two adorable little pups with wrinkles, He did not create us to be wrinkled all our lives.

Wrinkles come from a variety of factors, repetitive facial expressions, poor diet, exposure to the sun, smoking and aging. However, the one I really want to focus is on is aging.

Our skin is made up of three layers, the top layer epidermis, middle layer dermis, and lower layer subcutis. The dermis contains two important proteins which allow our skin to bounce back if you pull on it, collagen and elastin. Over time our bodies do not produce enough of these proteins leaving us with wrinkles.

I started using body lotions which contain collagen during my mid thirties and continue today. I recently found out that some lotions also contain elastin. Along with the Palmer's lotion for stretch marks I also use their firming and toning lotion which includes both of the important proteins our bodies start to lose and we need. Once in a while I do give my body a break from the lotions, but otherwise I alternate between the two on a daily basis.

For the face and eyes I also started using products in my mid thirties. I started out with Oil of Olay which I was very happy with, but decided to switch to Mary Kay timewise products. I would recommend either on of these products. However if you prefer a different brand just make sure they contain the proteins needed to help your skin look younger longer.

For those in their mid to late twenties I highly recommend you start now. It is absurd to wait until you see a wrinkle to start. Be aware that genetics also play a part in the aging process.

I know some individuals are either allergic to lotions, I will be writing another blog on others ways to get these important proteins for all my beautiful friends.

Oh! One more thing, I have talked with various mature woman who have beautiful skin about how they do it. The two most common answers were low exposure to the sun and face creams.

Stretch Marks

I mentioned in my previous blog that I do not have stretch marks, this was not always the case. Due to the fact that at one time I did have access weight I was left with stretch marks on my lower abs. I had heard that these were not reversible and thought I would always have them.

Once I started working out on a regular basis I noticed that my stretch marks were not as predominate as they once were. I also noticed that they were moving as my skin was tighten up from the ab work I was doing. I then had my first child and noticed that once again the stretch marks were more predominate than before. Feeling a little frustrated I just accepted it, because after all it was still better than before.

I continued working out and than had my second child, the same thing happened. One day I decided to try the stretch mark cream for pregnant woman, Palmer's Cocoa Butter, and still use it today. I really am not sure when it happened, just one day I noticed the stretch marks were gone. Wow!!! How can this be? I believe it is a combination of both working out and the cream. I use the cream every other day over my whole body.

I had a friend back in Chicago who used it during all three of her pregnancies and she said she never had a stretch mark.

PMS and The Menstrual Cycle

I learned long time ago that I suffer from PMS. I am usually a very patient and passive person, but once a month that all goes away. I snap at my children and husband about petty little things I would not even consider an issue except once a month. However, one thing both my husband and I have noticed is that as long as I keep up a good work out schedule I am not as irritable.

Through the years I would force my self to work out even while I was cramping. I noticed many years ago that for some strange reason when I worked out my pain would cease. After many years I finally decided to do some research to find out why this was and was it only me. Good news it is not just me it turns out that exercise releases beta-endorphins, internal opioids which our own natural pain killer.

While we have this natural pain killer so cleverly instilled in our bodies by the good Lord I would recommend working out with an type of real injury. So, next time you are cramping and seek relief start exercising.

I have not figured out yet how to curb those PMS cravings except moderation.

I did not forget about the images for the weights, I decided to create a video instead. It is my first one, with more to come, and my son is editing it for me. His first time doing something like this also, be patient my beautiful friends it should be up by the end of the week.

Healing From the Inside Out

I posted yesterdays blog on a blog hop called Wordless Wednesday and went back today to see what other blogs posted as well. The great thing about blog hops is it helps others learn about your blog and I can find some great blogs as well.

I started down the long list of titles, which were geared more towards the pictures than the title of the blog, looking for something that would catch my interest. I saw the words "A Spirit of Healing Sings" and thought it must be a blog on health. I was surprised to find that while it was a blog on health it was not what I expected. The blogger is blogging about her personal experience with abuse during her child hood. I sat and read her most recent blog and could feel the sadness and hopelessness she was feeling as she struggled to determine what a dream she had meant.

It got me thinking how if we have unresolved issues in our lives, if it be abuse, drugs, unforgiveness and so on we are not living healthy lives. We can not live a healthy life style with negativity in our lives. The first thing that needs to happen is the issue has to be recognized, if not it can not be treated. Once we can accept the fact that we have an issue we can than begin to seek help and heal. We can not be healed if we do not admit that we are wounded.

My mom was depressed all the time and was always going to the hospital for some type of illness. However, the doctors could never find anything wrong with her and she would be sent home once more. I know someone else who goes through the same thing. They both deal/dealt with the same problem, they were/are stuck in the past along with worrying about things they could never possibly control. They were/are making them selves sick, but not an actual sickness, does that make sense?

Seek help to heal your self on the inside and than you can begin to accomplish the things you were created to do. We all deserve to be happy and live the life God has planned for us.

I am a survivor of child hood molestation.

Oh No You Just Didn't!!

Photo Credit: Four Four Two dot com Love it!!!
One thing that used to totally bug me when I had extra weight was people saying to me mostly woman, "You would be so pretty if you were thinner." Seriously did you just say that? I mean really you have control over how your body looks, for the most part, but my face is not going to change except maybe get a little thinner. And seriously I'm still the same person on the inside.

Oh and then there are those shallow males that wanted nothing to do with me until I dropped the weight. I mean really, you wouldn't even give me the time of day before and now you think I'm going to go out with you, I'm thinking not! Both of the men I married, married me when I had extra weight on a true sign they loved me for who I was and found me attractive just the way I was.

These days when I discuss my eating habits and working out with others I get a new reaction, "But you are so thin." Well how do you think I look the way I do? I am not sitting on the couch eating chocolate bon bons watching One Life to Live. Why do people assume because you are thin you don't have to work at it? Sometimes I wish I could eat whatever I want or not have to exercise, but I look in the mirror and see defined muscles and run to work out.

The biggest thing I have learned through the years is that I am who I am and beautiful just the way I am. I work out because I like the way I look and the way I feel. If you have a problem with the way I look, then don't look I'm not doing it for you.

For some reason I just feel like venting today.

Hello World!!

This is my first blog here and because I have so much to say and share on this topic it has been hard to determine what to write. So, I thought something encouraging should be first, after all we all need encouragement.

Let me start by saying at one point and time in our lives we all have or are dreaming having that swim suit model body. We work so hard to get there, but we look in the mirror and it is just not there. For years I wondered why I worked so hard and could not achieve the look I wanted. One day it hit me, I am not built like them, no matter how much weight I lost or how much I worked out fact was I am not built like them. I am built like me and all I can do is do what I can to look and feel my best.

Our society has given woman the feeling that if we do not look a certain way we are not good enough or pretty enough. I am hear to tell you that is a load of poppy cock, we are all beautifully and wonderfully made just as we are. Working out and eating healthy is what we do so we can live more fulfilling lives with the people with love and care about. It is what works for me and what works for you, how I feel and how you feel, not what does the rest of the world think about me.

So, join me as I share what I have learned and what I do when I don't feel like doing it any more, hugs my beautiful friends.
