Real Food From the Farm


This morning for breakfast I had the best real food ever. Two cage free easy over eggs with breakfast sausage yum.

You might not think it looks appetizing, but believe me it is good. The eggs came from a friend who raises cage free chickens. Watch out for Henry, the head rooster, he is very protective of the hens and will go after you.

We purchased a whole pig from a local farm, and had them make some breakfast sausage with it. I love the fact that I was able to go to the farm to see how the pig was being raised and know what it was being fed.

There were three pigs and when I saw them they were basically teens. They were so cute and adorable I almost wished I had  not seen them. At that moment I knew I could never raise a pig for food, I wouldn't have the heart to send it off to the butcher.

Speaking of the butcher, I was also able to make sure that our pig would meet death in a humane way verses the way factories farms do things. I was surprised to see how clean the butcher's shop was considering all the animals that are processed there. They seasoned the breakfast sausage for us, but that was it no additives or preservatives.

 I love meat way to much to give it up, and believe I should know where my meat is coming from, how it is raised, feed, and how it will become my food. While I love meat I do not want to see any animal suffer during its life for me, or be killed through suffering for me.

Support your local farmer, or if you live in the city find one on the out skirts.

Now to me that is Real Food.

  1. I'm in complete agreement with you on raising animals in the most humane way possible. Factory farms are completely out of line with their practices! It tastes so much better to do what you have done and I believe it is much better for you. Nothing beats free range eggs!

  2. You are so right Maureen, I am going to do a blot on the difference between store bought cage free eggs, and those coming right from the cage free chickens. I have had both and there is a difference.

  3. I agree, I like knowing where my meat comes from and that the animal was cared for in a humane manner. We've raised pigs for the freezer in the past. Although they were cute when tiny, by the time they were old enough I was more than ready for them to go! Thank you for posting on the HomeAcre Hop; I hope you'll link up again this Thursday.
