Why Organic Halloween Treats

As Halloween draws near I thought I would tell you why non-organic candy is harmful, along with some other options.

#1 The majority of candy in stores these days contain high fructose corn syrup. Not only is it made from corn which is 86% genetically modified, but it is also contaminated with mercury.

#2 They also contain sugar which comes from the sugar beet which is 95% genetically modified.

#3 Many contain some type of soy, soy lecithin, or soybean oil, 93% of all soy is genetically modified.

#4 Some may contain either cottonseed oil, or canola oil, 90% of canola is genetically modified, while 93% of all cotton products are modified.

#5 Mono-sodium glutamate may be lurking disguised as natural flavoring, or glutamic acid. This ingredient is known to promote growth of cancer, and also aids to spread cancer cells.

#6 Aspartame is found as a sugar substitute in no sugar added products, and is deadly.

#7 Artificial coloring makes candies look pretty, but did you know that they are made from chemicals which are derived from petroleum? Which are also used to make gasoline, tar, diesel fuel, and asphalt.

Okay that is a lot of bad news, but there are some options, YumEarth Organic Lollipops a bag of 40+ for $4.89 and are also gluetin and nut free. I love gummies, yes I said it, and replaced my GMO junk with YummyEarth Organic Gummy Bears you get 24 individual bags for $15.60 also gluetin and nut free. I love Annie's Homegrown products we use a variety of them Annie's Homegrown Organic Vegan Fruit Snacks Variety Pack you get 24 vegan pouches for $16.59. I also love jelly beans, and now I buy Surf Sweets Organic Jelly Bean you can get 24 packs for $18.96. Of course there are other organic candy brands out there, but I promote only what I have had.

The Institute For Responsible Technology has created four flyers to download, print, and hand out to trick-or-treaters here.

What are you doing to avoid handing out GMO junk this Halloween?

  1. It very disturbing to know what kids are eating in their candy and a blessing to know that there are safe alternatives to conventional toxic candy. Thanks so much for sharing this information and making people aware of safe candy.

  2. Wow, put that way, candy shouldn't be consumed! Funny how people always refer to the sugar in it being what is bad. The sugar seems like it would be the most harmless ingredient. Thanks for sharing the organic options. :)
