The Importance of Vitamin D

Vitamin D is another vitamin the majority of our population lacks. It is found in very few foods, and vegetarians are at higher risk of being vitamin D deficient. One way we can get vitamin D naturally is through the sun however, if you use any sunscreen it will prevent the absorption of the vitamin.

It is important to have vitamin D for various reasons, it helps in building calcium, along with preventing many major illnesses that plaque our society.

  • Osteoporosis
  • Various cancers
  • Heart disease
  • High blood pressure
  • Obesity
  • Depression and other mental disorders
  • Diabetes
  • Infertility
  • Parkinson
  • Joint pain
  • Psoriasis
If you have any of these issues it is possible you suffer from vitamin D deficiency. Even if you do not, lack sunshine, have dark skin, and age all play a role in the need for vitamin D. You may have some of the symptoms associated with low vitamin D such as....

  • Fatigue
  • Muscle pain/weakness
  • Muscle cramps
  • Joint pain
  • Chronic pain
  • Weight gain
  • Restless sleep
  • Poor concentration
  • Headaches
  • Bladder problems
  • Constipation or diarrhea

Studies have shown that vitamin D is important for good brain function however, they are not sure how actually it works. This why some health professionals are connecting depression, and some other mental health disorders with lack of vitamin D.Studies have also shown that taking a daily supplement of vitamin D helps depression, and can also prevent it.

Individuals who have digestive issues may not be able to absorb vitamin D adequately from the food they eat. Those with kidney issues, or even more mature individuals may have a hard converting vitamin D into its active form.

We take Now Vitamin D-3 1,000 IU High Potency twice a day. Since I started taking supplements I have more energy, and feel alot better, also I have not been sick since, since, I can't remember the last time.

This is strictly for educational purposes, you should always talk to your health care professional before taking any type of supplement.

  1. Don't forget those of us with MS. We cannot get out in the sun-the sun makes us sick. Therefore this can cause a vitamin d deficiency. Last years blood work showed deficiency after taking it with my meds brain lesions were greatly diminished. Visiting from hump day hop lorraine at http://lorrainesresources.blogspot.com

  4. Joint health supplements do work. Even joint health supplements such as fish oils can reduce pain and inflammation in the joints. There are people who take cod liver oil capsules directly after strenuous activity. This prevents some of the swelling that they would experience if they did not take any sort of vitamins specifically for supporting good health.
